TreeHaus Eatery – Midtown Manhattan by UnSpace

Interiors and architectural studio, UnSpace, recently designed TreeHaus, a gourmet eatery/deli in midtown Manhattan catering to the young professionals set and bustling city dwellers.

Most interesting about this modern restaurant design is that the food itself is not visible from the exterior. Instead, beautiful architectural elements such as the curved, linear floor-to-ceiling cedar cage at the entrance, freestanding sleek white display pantries housing the hot and cold offerings and a mezzanine-level vertical wood screen are the stand-outs.

As one may realize, Manhattan has many of these shiny delis on virtually every corner–you know, the ones in between Starbuck’s and a Ray’s pizzeria. However, TreeHaus is a star with its minimalist design, not to mention the menu which is American with a French twist. Specialties include made-to-order omelets, stacked deli sandwiches, paninis, grilled steaks and burgers, an exotic tea bar, custom-blended and cold-press juice drinks, and fresh fruit smoothies.

The two-story volume is entirely glazed, with the company’s logo of an abstract tree discreetly etched into the facade. A set of double glass doors with elongated vertical steel handles greet customers directly from the street, while once inside gleaming white marble floors flow around the order counters and culinary displays.

Simple rectangular wood block benches are placed along windows within the eatery providing plentiful seating for the morning rush and lunch hour crowds. Additional dining/standing bars are set up around the store’s perimeter for quick bites on-the-go. Upstairs, geometric woods tables with industrial-style metal stools sit underneath a staggered wood-plank ceiling, available for those with a little more time to nosh. A cool artwork made from a collage of wooden spoons rests along the back wall.

Interiors are streamlined, bright and bold in pure white with strong black accents–you almost feel as if you’re walking through an art gallery. A wonderful contribution to this space, adding to that artistic sentiment, are the various food quotations by iconic writers like Sheila Graham and George Bernard Shaw which are written in a clean black font across the various white walls of the food displays–so clever!

TreeHaus exudes a modern restaurant design concept with a distinctive urban appeal.
