Casart Coverings offers professional wall finishes and murals that can be repositioned or removed easily, taking away the headache of mastering difficult to perfect painting techniques, such as faux finishes or painted murals. Casart Coverings are adhesive-backed coverings that can give a room a high-quality and original look that retains the authentic appeal of paint finishes. To achieve consistency, all of Casart’s designs are taken from their own hand painted originals. I like this type of product, and all of the possible applications, so I recently connected with Casart Coverings to find out more.

From a brief look over their website I understood the conceptual design benefits and flexibility their coverings offered, but the example finishings we saw on the firm’s website leant towards more traditional homes. So, I challenged the Casart Covering’s team on providing us with their relevance to modern or contemporary styles, where their coverings would need to provide feature or substance to a room that was otherwise styled for modern urban living. Their response was what I had hoped for, the photography they provided (shown at the top of this article – the covering used is Zebrawood , in natural, from Casart’s Organic collection) from one of their projects showed how their finishes are applicable to all markets and styles and really transformed the room by providing warmth and texture that complimented the remainder of the room. Bravo!

To provide a little background on the company, it is an all-female ran, mother and daughter (x2), business that is less than two years old – yet is already gaining some noteable attention with their products. When I connected with them to learn more about their product and business, they were able to advise that renowned interior designers, such as Mary Douglas Drysdale, the prominent Washington-DC designer, had made use of Casart’s wall coverings in recent projects.
It wasn’t until I sat back, while pondering the writing of this feature, that the full extent of such a covering’s uses dawned on me. If you spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on a fine art painting, you wouldn’t commission the artist to paint it directly on your wall as that wouldn’t preserve your investment. So, I thought, why should wall finishes and murals be any different?
There’s a myriad of uses for such coverings, but the first use for Casart Coverings that came to mind would be in Children’s rooms – indeed, Casart already has a range for the t3′s (Tots, Tweens & Teens). Countless parents spend a lot of money on murals for children’s rooms that can’t be taken with you or moved to another room and, worse still, don’t wear well or can be spoiled by over zealous budding artists in the home (that’s my creative way of saying that kids enjoy scrawling on the walls). Casart Coverings has an advantage in this regards as they are printed on durable, canvas-like, vinyls that can be wiped down and cleaned easily. Even if there were a stubborn patch, you could simple take the affected area down from the wall, lie it flat and clean vigorously and simply re-apply the covering in its space when finished.
Another useful application for Casart Coverings is in the rental market, where one doesn’t want to invest substanitally in a home that you do not own, and also the large corporate relocation market. If you or your partner’s job relocates to another part of the country for a temporary assignment, you can simply take the wall with you – preserving the time, money and emotional cost of losing a recently-decorated living space that you or your children otherwise enjoyed.
Portability is practicle, too. Consider having friends over to a party but there’s not sufficient room in the personal space where the finish or art covering currently is. You could simply move the covering to a larger, family area and provide all the atmosphere and fun that might otherwise be lost.
I particularly enjoyed the notion of using Casart Coverings for headboards, where you can simply apply the covering to the desired area and push the bed snuggly up against the wall. Genius!
To help you understand their shelf-life and durability, Casart Coverings are backed with a reusable adhesive coating, not unlike that which is used on popular office notes, that is strong enough to stay in place, but easy to remove or reposition over and over again.
Overall, I like the product this company is producing for one reason more than most – it represents design innovation. Additionally, Casart offers a wide range of designs, but also welcomes custom work so you are not limited to the designs that they create. Modern living is beginning to dictate that we adopt these types of innovative products, as they provide the flexibility our lives, and particularly careers, now require. If you’re thinking of investing in an expensive wall finish or mural and you don’t know which room you prefer it in, or which house you’re going to be in, we think you’d do well to consider Casart Coverings. This way the color, art, etc. that makes us feel good and inspires us can become a permanent fixture in our lives, not just a decoration on a permanent structure that we have to leave behind.
