When it comes to wall décor, many of us hit the proverbial wall. Sure, you covet original artwork, but you can’t spare all the dollars it takes to cover your home in paintings. We’re here to tell you about a wall decoration option that will only set you back a few Benjamins, but will transform forgettable wall space into an artistic statement.
Pottery Barn-style wrought iron doo-dads and Pier 1 knick-knacks, be gone! Something sleeker, more minimal and more contemporary has arrived.
What are we talking about? The Wallter company tagline says it all: “Part art, part wallpaper.”
In 2004, San Francisco the husband-and-wife design team behind Wallter couldn’t find a simple and funky way to decorate the walls in their kids’ rooms. In true DIY fashion, they came up with their own answer to the problem: adhesive wall applications in striking, dynamic, and bold shapes! They are made out of wood, primed and ready to paint, with 3M peel-away backings that are a cinch to apply. The shapes come in sets of 8 (in varying sizes) for less than $50 a set, and come in a variety of choices – squares, leaves, circles, and fish – that work in a variety of rooms.
Our favorite is the “Hex” application. To create a retro-glamorous lounge-like feel in a living or dining room: take a few of the 8-piece sets of the adhesive hexagons, paint them (in any color that matches room accents), and arrange them in one massive hexagon above a sofa or dining table.
The look will make you want to fix a martini, put on some jazz, sit back and relax … and forget all about coveting “original” art work.
